Mayor Brandon Johnson Opens Our Stories Our Futures Career Day

Career Day has been a long standing tradition at Holy Family. For the past 11 years, we have welcomed local professionals to our campus to talk to our scholars about the diverse ways they've found success. This year's theme was "Our Stories, Our Futures," with an emphasis on inspiring excellence in the next generation of Black and Brown leaders.

We were honored to welcome Mayor Brandon Johnson as our opening guest speaker, a leader who truly embodies that theme. Mayor Johnson reflected on his time as an educator on the West Side of Chicago and the journey that led him to the mayor's office. He encouraged our scholars, as someone who has stood where they have, to think of all the possibilities available to them as they look towards their futures. Led by our student tour guides, Mayor Johnson continued the conversation by stopping into several classrooms and engaging directly with scholars about how they're preparing for high school, college, and beyond.

Career Day continued with a dynamic guest speaker panel and individual classroom sessions. Our scholars heard from entrepreneurs, artists, engineers, public servants, medical professionals, and more. Each speaker brought their field to life through interactive presentations and hands-on activities, offering a window into what their day-to-day work is like. It was an invaluable experience for all involved, full of meaningful conversations prompting our students to look towards the future.
